CORVID-19 is still here and you are asked to be safe whilst out in the North West of Scotland. Current restrictions have been relaxed recently. Even so, please do not go out in the area if you are showing signs of Corvid-19. When out paddling or hillwalking make sure you give people space - 1m at least and preferable 2m. Remember that if it feels too crowded then you can walk away and try somewhere else; the environment will still be there tomorrow. Also remember the emergency services, the RNLI and the MRT. They will come out to rescue you but they should not have to put themselves into danger from this virus.
Take Care Out There.

The shore at the north of Achiltiebuie has a fantastic view over to the Summer Isles and Tannara Mor in particular. This is a 1k crossing of sea so the paddler must be capable to do this. Choose a day when the sea is flat calm if you need to. The crossing is well worth it as is the circumnavigation of Tannara Mor is well worth the effort. Many would say that sea kayaking in the Summer Isles is in the top 10 in the world; we would say it is number 1. A must for all sea kayakers.
Follow the minor roads to reach the road junction at NC016095 where there is a convenient public convenience. Turn right here to get down to the grass and pack on this grass with great views over to the Summer Isles.
If the tide is high then it is a short walk to the sea from the grass over sand. If, however it is low tide, it can be a much longer walk over many stones to reach the sea. Once in and settled, paddle around past the pier and the along the coast to reach the nearest point to the island. From here take a bearing and paddle over to Tannara Mor. When you get to the coast turn right, east, and follow the coast around to reach The Anchorage. This is a good place to put in, visit the shop, take a rest, have a coffee or just enjoy the island.(3kms. 1hrs. 0min.)
The next section is to continue clockwise around the island enjoying the coast. Follow the coast around the Anchorage to the fish farm at the southern edge and then continue around the rocky coast, examining the features as close or from afar as you choose. There are not many opportunities to pull out from the water on this coastline but it is possible to put ashore at Mol Mor. From here continue north keeping Tanera Mor on the right and the smaller islands on the left. When the north west corner of the Island is reached pull in right to explore the small bay marked. Again it can be possible to get out here, but not always easy.(5kms. 1hrs. 30min.)
Now for the reverse crossing. Continue around the island to the far north and head for the nearest shore west of the pier at Achiltiebuie. Once at the mainland shore turn right and follow the coast around back the the starting beach. Pull out on the beach and if planned corectly a shorter carry back to the car.(3kms. 1hrs. 0min.)
